Attempted murder case postponed

The robber arrested for attempted murder and house break-in will stay in jail until his bail application hearing.

He appeared briefly in the Springs Regional Court on Tuesday, but the case has been postponed until November 17.

He was arrested last Thursday (November 6) after he fired a shot through the front door of a house in Dal Fouche.

The shot went through the wooden door and into the wall.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the owner of the house wanted to let her dogs out at 5.20am, and when she opened the door, she saw an armed man pointing a gun at her.

The woman closed the door in a hurry and luckily the dogs never left the house when the alleged robber fired a shot.

When the police arrived on the scene, they found balls of meat and poison on the grass and paving at the front of the house.

Ramphora says the woman reacted immediately by calling for help over the radio.

The Dal Fouche Community Association heard the women’s distress call over the community radio and all the neighbours being part of the network assisted in the arrest.

Ramphora says the owner of the firearm was released after he was arrested the following day (November 7).

He claims the gun was locked in a safe but was stolen by his brother.

The alleged robber remands in custody at the Springs police cells until his bail application hearing on November 17.
