Two Springs detectives and two police informers will appear in the Carltonville Magistrate Court today (May 27) on charges of murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice.
Two of the suspects, a detective and informer, were denied bail during their bail application on May 19, and the case was postponed to today.
Senior prosecutor Victor Simelane says their bail application has not yet been finalised.
He wants to rectify information published in a daily publication which stated that one of the detectives turned state witness.
It is an informer who has turned state witness.
This witness is not charged and has been placed in a witness protection programme.
Simelane states the informer was the one who came forward on May 4, when he notified his neighbour about the murders in Carltonville on April 17.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating the killing of three suspects allegedly at the hands of two constables from the Springs Police Detective Services.
It is alleged that on April 17 they were investigating a business robbery, after which they arrested four suspects.
IPID spokesman Moses Dlamini says one of the suspects was tortured and later died.
He was taken to Pholosong Hospital, but the hospital refused to admit him as he was already dead.
Dlamini says the deceased was allegedly loaded into a police vehicle and taken to Carletonville, which is quite a distance from Springs.
The policemen allegedly shot at the other suspects, killing two of them.
One was left for dead, but survived.
“The bodies of the deceased were dumped at different locations,” says Dlamini.
The charges against the four suspects are three counts of murder, three counts of kidnapping, one count of attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.
