SAPS conducts surprise search at a Springs high school

The Springs Social Crime Prevention Unit, Visible Policing (Vispol), EMPD and rangers conducted the random search.

The Springs Social Crime Prevention Unit, Visible Policing (Vispol), EMPD and rangers conducted a random search at Eureka High School on March 22 at 9am.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says the purpose of the school search was to address the issues of drugs, illegal possession of dangerous weapons and bullying.

“The school was identified as one of the more problematic schools in the Springs precinct,” he says.

“The learners were caught by surprise when the SAPS visited, and the operation yielded good results.”

Two knives, a box of matches and a toy were recovered.

“The operation serves as a deterrent to schoolchildren not to be involved in any criminal activities.

“Staff of the school were thrilled by the performance of the police and applauded them for creating a safer education environment.”

Station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebushe was delighted by the success and dedication of the police officers.
