Residents of Never-Never informal settlement were warned about the removal of their illegal shacks.
This is according to the City of Ekurhuleni and in response to an article in the Advertiser’s August 6 edition, More shacks dismantled.
It was reported how the EMPD cracked down on more illegal structures in the settlement on July 29.

Resident Charles Links told the Advertiser the EMPD started burning down shacks without speaking to any of the residents.
Nhlanhla Cebekhulu, divisional head of communication and media relations for the City of Ekurhuleni, explained the land invasion unit received a complaint from the Department of Human Settlements about a community invading the Never-Never informal settlement.

“The land invasion unit tried several times to talk the community,” he said.
Cebekhulu pointed out that part of the land belongs to a private individual and the other to the municipality.
“This was not the first time the land invasion unit removed shacks at Never-Never as 10 shacks were removed on July 1.
“On July 29, six shacks were removed but no shacks were burnt,” said Cebekhulu.
