The Alliance Road community in Selcourt joined hands and cleaned up the park at the corner of Beryl and Aurora roads on Saturday morning.
Young and old put money together, hired a tractor, gathered their gardening tools and got to work at 7am.
It is claimed the City of Ekurhuleni has not cleaned the park since last October.

Residents who live in the vicinity of the park, which has become an eyesore in the community, said they have spotted men loitering in the area and suspicious-looking vehicles at the park during the day.
According to residents, the men were scouting the area looking for opportunities to commit crime.
Residents have not been able to utilise the park, which has exercise and play equipment, and feared taking walks on the grounds.
They reported a spike in the number of break-ins in the area since the grass was overgrown and the street lights were not working.

“We wanted to start with something small and the park was the right place to do that.
“We aim to do this once a month,” said resident Yolandi Cook.
