A fallen tree at an entrance to Dr WK du Plessis School may pose a safety hazard to learners.
Martie de Villiers, a concerned resident, believes the large felled tree makes it difficult for learners to see oncoming traffic as they leave the school.
“The tree fell after a thunderstorm a few weeks ago. The metro was notified and sent municipal workers who cut the tree but failed to remove it.
“I am worried that a child will be hit by a car. As we drive past we also cannot see them walking towards the road,” she explained.
Dean Stone, Ward 72 councillor, confirmed he has received several complaints about the tree.
Stone hopes the issue will be resolved in the next few days.

The metro confirmed that municipal workers have not responded to the query.
“It is proper that we apologise to the public for the late response on the matter.
“There were vehicle breakdowns which impacted on our level of service.
“However, we are now back on track and the tree will soon be removed,” explained Zweli Dlamini, the metro’s spokesperson.
Dlamini said the tree would be removed on May 17.
