Hlanganani Village residents demand action

Angry residents at Sharon Park Lifestyle Estate protested last Monday over grievances with the Homeowners Association.

Last Monday, frustrated residents of Sharon Park Lifestyle Estate (Hlanganani Village) gathered to voice their grievances against the Homeowners Association (HOA).

The protest focused on ongoing issues related to entrance and exit restrictions imposed by the HOA and other issues.

Residents have expressed deep concerns over what they describe as a lack of response from the HOA despite their persistent efforts to address the situation.

Resident Lucky Nonyana noted that in recent weeks, they have written and delivered letters to the HOA, including approaching the Nigel Court and using SAPS to ensure delivery, but have received no acknowledgement or action from the association.

The residents are particularly unhappy with what they perceive as mismanagement by the HOA, especially regarding gate access issues.

“The frustration among residents has reached a boiling point,” said Nonyana.

“Time and again, we are blocked from entering or exiting the estate, disrupting our daily routines, including getting to work and ensuring our children can attend school.”

Nonyana also pointed out that the persistent entrance issues have led to traffic congestion on Rhokana Avenue, affecting local commuters.

In addition to access problems, residents have voiced concerns over unexplained charges. They claim that despite paying their levies, they have been prohibited from accessing their homes due to alleged unpaid fees.

“Some residents have even been presented with bills dating back over three years, which they were not informed of until they sought answers after being barred from entering or leaving the premises,” Nonyana explained.

“One of the most contentious issues is the 33% levy charge. Residents are unclear about the origin and justification for this fee.

“Some have paid this amount to regain access to the estate, yet even after payment, they still face difficulties with the gate system.”

Another resident, Albert Khumalo, expressed concern over the lack of recreational spaces for children in the estate.

“Our children end up playing in the streets because there are no parks available. We are worried about their safety; they should have a secure place to play, not be out on the streets where cars pass by,” Khumalo said.

The residents’ protest reflects their deep dissatisfaction with the current HOA management and their demand for transparency and resolution.

“All we want are answers and a proper way to address our issues instead of being ignored or labelled as troublemakers by the HOA,” said Nonyana.

The Springs Advertiser requested comment from the HOA, but none has been received.
