Springs student among bursars empowered at Emperors Palace workshop

Springs student joins 50 bursars in transformative workshop.

A Springs resident, Nomusa Sogwayi, was one of the students who attended a three-day workshop at Emperors Palace.

The scholarship recipients of the Peermont Education Trust (PET) and students pursuing their Hospitality Management degrees attended a three-day workshop.

These bursars had the opportunity to reflect, recharge, reset, and reframe their mindsets and were given time management tools, taught boundary-setting for personal success and how to build career-readiness skills to help them pass their studies this year, graduate and improve their chances of finding work.

The workshop focused on students doing a SWOT analysis, looking at their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats so that they could set goals for the year.

“They were also given the tools during these three days to achieve those goals and assist in helping them successfully navigate their studies this year,” Thomas Masango from the Emperors Palace Trust Office said.

On the first day, the 50 students reflected on the theme ‘Who am I and how far have I come?’.

“The reason for the latter is that the students can’t move forward powerfully until they understand what’s shaped them,” he said.

On the second day, they were allowed to reflect on their journeys so far, celebrate their growth, and learn from the challenges that helped them uncover their inner strengths.

They also explored who they are today, what’s been holding them back and then started rewriting their stories with intention.

On the final day, the students were equipped with time management tools, taught boundary-setting for personal success and how to build career-readiness skills, which will all stand them in good stead, not only to pass their studies this year but for those graduating to improve their chances of finding work.
