Springs Central Air Group hosts medieval-themed fundraiser for Scouts

Locals enjoyed a night of quizzes, costumes and a movie as the Springs Central Air Group raised funds to support scout activities and hall repairs.

The Springs Central Air Group hosted locals at its fundraiser, featuring quizzes, dress-up and a movie night under a medieval theme at the City Base Church on October 25.

Event organiser Annelesia Laubscher told the Springs Advertiser that the turnout was low and she had hoped for more people. However, she thanked those who attended.

She said they combined the quiz and movie night because they wanted people of all ages, including parents, to enjoy the night. She added that it was themed to be fun and was not an everyday occurrence.

Laubscher said seeing everyone enjoy it and hearing them tell her they look forward to the next one was her highlight of the evening.

“Some great moments were when Tim Robinson got one from each table to show us their best medieval dance, and later got them to spell ‘gargoyle’.

“Another great moment was when the best-dressed was a tie and was decided by a sword-fighting duel, one of their best performances, if I say so myself,” said the organiser.

She said the event started with simple planning and speaking to the right people, and that people like Tim Robinson and his wife volunteered their time. She added that it was a privilege to use the City Base Church’s hall.

Laubscher shone a light on their marketer, Michele van der Walt, who did a fantastic job securing sponsors like the Spur, Superb Tyres and Corporate IT.

She said the funds raised would purchase new equipment for the Scouts and allow them to repair the Scout hall, highlighting that it is all in service to help young people become the best they can be.

Laubscher said she would host another quiz and movie night next year, adding that she has already started planning it and there would be more events for the Scouts as well.
