Damark NGO gives back to local homes in Springs

To celebrate their one-year anniversary, Damark South Africa reached out to local homes and shelters, donating food, toiletries, and groceries to those in need.

Damark NGO recently carried out a series of donations to local homes in a bid to foster a stronger sense of community and support for those in need.

The initiative first began in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown with a programme called Damark Feed the Street, which provided food parcels to over 300 families in Springs.

Over the past month, the organisation has extended its outreach by donating food, groceries, and toiletries to several local facilities, including the Methodist Home for the Elderly, Hope Ithemba Pregnancy Crisis Centre, Leratong a Place of Love Crisis Centre and Hope Faith and Grace Community Project, a shelter for young adults and teenagers.

“This year in October, the Damark South Africa Educational Project turned one year old, and to celebrate our anniversary, we decided to reach out to NGOs that need assistance,” said Oyinloluwa “Pastor Honey” Eseh, a representative from Damark.

After pausing operations for some time, the NGO officially relaunched in October 2024. Eseh explained that their mission extends beyond charity, focusing on education, discipline, and skills development for young people.

“We teach children how to read, we teach them manners, and we encourage high school learners to learn a vocation.

“Some of these children come from struggling families and may not be able to attend college, so the goal is to equip them with a trade or skill that can help them build a future at their own pace and cost,” she said.

She appealed to the community to support their ongoing efforts.

“We would appreciate the involvement of individuals and corporate organisations in helping this great cause through donations of stationery, sanitary pads, food items, toiletries, groceries, and other essentials that allow us to reach more children and families,” Eseh said.
