Authorities unite to inspect Springs spaza shops for compliance

Authorities in Springs joined forces to inspect local spaza shops for compliance. The operation, led by the EMPD, focused on expired goods, counterfeit products, and business registration.

The EMPD conducted a spaza shop compliance operation in the Springs CBD on November 12.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Springs SAPS, Environmental Health, City Planning, local economic development departments, and GTW.

Officials inspected local shops to ensure compliance with business regulations, checking for expired goods, illegal immigrants, counterfeit products, and valid business registrations.

During the operation, they managed to arrest two illegal immigrants and search a shop on 5th Avenue; however, no goods were confiscated, and they were not able to inspect the other targeted shops as they found them closed.
