Illegal immigrants arrested in Ekurhuleni-led Operation Basadi

Women in blue from various stations in the Eastern South and East District led an Operation Basadi across various areas in the Springs on November 19.

The officers were divided into three groups that conducted the operation on the N12 to check for drugs, liquor, and second-hand goods, and at spaza shops to check for compliance.

According to the Springs SAPS spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, the roadblock on the N12 resulted in six traffic fines, valued at R2 700.

“Officers also managed to arrest nine undocumented immigrants, eight individuals for possession of drugs, one for dealing in drugs and one for the possession of live ammunition,” Zwane said.

In addition to the arrests, two liquor outlets were closed.
