Grootvlei Estate woman arrested after police seize unlicensed firearm

A police tip-off led officers to a Grootvlei Estate home where a 60-year-old woman was arrested after an unlicensed firearm was allegedly discovered hidden in a bathroom.

A 60-year-old woman was arrested at Grootvlei Estate after she was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm on July 30.

According to Springs police spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, officers received a tip-off about an individual who was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“Upon arrival at the identified premises, police found the woman who pointed out the firearm, which was found inside the bathroom.

“The suspect failed to produce a valid licence and the firearm was confiscated and booked into the Springs SAPS,” Zwane said.

She was arrested and detained at the station and is expected to appear before court soon.
