A tribute to Doctor Reitz Burger

"I have trusted him with my life."

I would like to pay tribute to a man who has been part of my life for 30 years.

He has looked after my health and has become my friend.

I have trusted him with my life.

Such kindness he has shown to me and my hubby and when my medical aid had run dry he treated me for nothing.

He has seen folks through thick and thin from grannies ,grandpas, mommies and daddies and kids.

I could never at first understand how a doctor could remember me on his holidays and his travels and bring me the most wonderful gifts back.

Tiny porcelain elephants in a wooden box from Thailand, gorgeous shells from Bali, carved tropical fish from the Comores and a prayer shawl from Israel.

Then it struck me that this man considered me his friend and friends share with each other.

Wow, that made me feel so special.

I was seeing things that I would never in my life time see but could share in the travels to exotic places and share in the joy of his giving.

I also have the privilege of owning some of his pottery.

Such a wonderful gifted man that has made the most exquisite pots and truly amazing to think these hands have delivered tiny babies into this world and neatly stitched up wounds.

I cannot praise him enough, a man who has not only given of his generous time to patients across our borders but also internationally.

What I know of you Reitz Burger is a man of great integrity, compassion and honour.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

Thank you for teaching me to rise above pettiness and to utilize my gifts.

I want you to know I will never forget and keep all memories close to my heart.

Dr Burger I am truly honoured and privileged to know you because its not often folk meet giants in their lifetime and to recognize who they are.

Love you lots and God’s richest blessings for a happy birthday on February 15.

Loretta Coleman.
