Department of Sports celebrates Move For Health day

The initiative encourages individuals to take responsibility for their health by engaging in activities such as walking, regular exercise, and more.

BOIPATONG.- It was a hive of activity at Boipatong Stadium when the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation hosted Move for Health Day on Friday.. This Health Day, celebrated globally on 10th May, aims to promote physical activity for improved health and well-being.

The initiative encourages individuals to take responsibility for their health by engaging in activities such as walking, regular exercise, and more. The day’s programme commenced with a 5km walk, followed by speeches from representatives of the Department of Sports and local councillors who welcomed the participants. It was a fun-filled day with children and elderly individuals participating in indigenous games, aerobics, and other activities.

Nomazwe Nthokwane from the Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation hailed the event as a great success, with participants of all ages enjoying every moment of the activities. Nthokwane emphasised that World Move for Health Day is celebrated globally to encourage people to adopt healthy lifestyles.

“As the Department of Sports, this is part of our initiative to promote physical activity among young and elderly people in our communities. You can see for yourself how happy they are participating in different activities,” said Nthokwane.
