MEYERTON. – North-West University student Naledi Zwane, who had been missing for nearly three months, has been found safe and reunited with her family.

Meyerton SAPS announced on Saturday that Zwane had been found. The announcement was made on behalf of station commander Col Senzangakona Christopher Mohale.

Vaalweekblad previously reported that Zwane, a 21-year-old third-year student, had been missing since 9 June after reportedly visiting the Meyerton Licensing Department.

According to a police statement issued over the weekend, Zwane was recognised in Pretoria by a member of the public, who then contacted her parents and the police.

Meyerton SAPS members accompanied Zwane’s mother to Pretoria on Thursday, 3 September, to confirm her identity. She was subsequently brought home safely.

The Zwane family thanked Meyerton SAPS, the Meyerton and Midvaal community policing forums, the SAPS K9 Unit, local security companies, churches, community members, relatives, friends and media organisations for their assistance and support during the search.

The Meyerton CPF also welcomed her safe return.

In a separate statement, the Meyerton CPF said the circumstances surrounding Zwane’s disappearance remained unknown and asked that the family’s privacy be respected.

Meyerton SAPS thanked everyone who assisted in locating Zwane and reaffirmed its commitment to serving the community.
