Lions and Griquas to battle it out for Currie Cup title

Lions and Griquas to battle  it out for Currie Cup title The Fidelity ADT Lions will host the Carling Currie Cup Premier Division final after crushing the Sanlam Boland Kavaliers 67–19 in  Johannesburg, while the Suzuki Griquas secured their place with  a determined 25–5 victory over the Toyota Cheetahs in  Kimberley. At Ellis Park, the Lions showcased their class with a dominant performance built on pace, power, and precision.
They ran in 10 tries, racing to a 41–5 halftime lead that left the Kavaliers chasing shadows. Wing Angelo Davids stole the show with four tries, three of them in the first half, while Henco van  Wyk crossed twice. SJ Kotze, Quan Horn, Renzo du Plessis, and a  penalty try completed the rout. Flyhalf Chris Smith controlled proceedings with a strong kicking display, contributing 15 points  from six conversions and a penalty. Despite their heavy defeat,  Boland—last year’s First Division champions—earned respect as  this season’s surprise package, scoring three tries through Sidney Tobias, Jayden Bantom, and Chriswill September. In Kimberley,  the Griquas fought their way into a second final in four years,
inspired by the brilliance of wing Dylan Maart. After Albert  Liebenberg opened the scoring, Maart produced a solo effort  that carried him twothirds of the field for his first try. He later  sealed the result with a spectacular diving finish in the corner,  taking his tally to two. Veteran flyhalf George Whitehead kept the scoreboard ticking with two conversions and two penalties,  including a long-range effort to cap the victory. The Cheetahs managed only a single try in response, with Prince Nkabinde  scoring in the first half. The Lions, stacked with Vodacom URC talent, will now host the final at Ellis Park next Saturday, with  kick-off set for 15:00 (to be confirmed). The Griquas, who fell to the Lions in the league phase, will look to overturn that result  and lift the trophy, while the Lions aim to make home advantage  count once more.
