Flexing muscles in peaceful protest

VEREENIGING. – “The National Gym Staff Demonstration was a huge success and received phenomenal media coverage both locally and nationally.” This is what Bruce Slater, Spokesperson for the well know Slater Gym Group in the Vaal, had to report back after last Wednesday’s nationwide plight. The Slater Gym staff and owners supported the cause outside the Slater Gym in Three Rivers.

“The effect of the coverage received from Vaalweekblad and other media outlets across South Africa was far reaching. So much so, that the following day FITSA was invited to a Zoom meeting with the Ministry of Sport to discuss our plight and possible reopening dates.” says Bruce.
This meeting went well, and the industry is hoping to hear something positive at another meeting scheduled for this week.

Due to the pandemic, the situation has become desperate in South Africa! The gym industry, along with many other business sectors across the country, will be entering their fifth month under lockdown. The concern and need for the gyms to reopen resulted in the peaceful demonstration.

  • The well know local Slater Gym Group is a founding member of FITSA, an association representing over 450 independent clubs across South Africa. A total of 129 staff members of the Slater Gym Groups have been affected by the national lockdown.
