PICS: What a waste: Sebokeng’s R75M drivers’ licence centre

SEBOKENG.- Close to R75 million in taxpayers' money has seemingly turned into wasteful expenditure at a drivers' licence testing centre in Sebokeng.

In a statement the Democratic Alliance said the construction of the drivers’ licence test centre (DLTC) in Sebokeng commenced in September 2015 and was expected to be completed in 2016.

Kingsol Chabalala, DA Emfuleni North Constituency Head said:  “This clearly indicates a lack of project management by the department as this project was not properly supervised and is one of many projects that have been abandoned by the contractors which is a total waste of taxpayers’ money.”

Social media reacts:

Angela Martinez-Rorke: Let’s be honest, most government driver’s license department are a joke!

Heinrich Sass: Nothing new… This is what we have to deal on a daily basis. Governed by incompetent, corrupt officials, no accountability just gets promoted as if nothing wrong!

Stewart Wood: How many times have such follies been repeated across the land, and how much corruption has been involved? Where is the Commission to get to the bottom of this criminality?

Karl Smith: That’s happens when contractors r paid up front, because of tender fraud.

Claudine Botha Jory-Burgess: There’s NO way this building can cost even close to R75 million. Tenders are being overinflated!!!
