Tshwane university student murdered at campus residence

Both the victim and a suspect who was taken in for questioning are reportedly from Newcastle in KZN.

A young woman originally from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal was found murdered in Pretoria on Thursday morning. A junior Blue Bulls rugby player and allegedly her ex-boyfriend, has been questioned by police.

Ntokozo Mayenzi Xaba (20) was discovered with a stab wound at her campus residence. She was a third-year student at the Tshwane University of Technology and a former Newcastle High School alumnus.

It is alleged that she had been out with friends on Wednesday where after she and her ex-boyfriend left together.

 

According to police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello a man, who is also allegedly from Newcastle, has since been taken into police custody for questioning.

It is reported that the suspect represented the Blue Bulls Country Districts in 2022. The rugby union has since released a statement.

• This is the fourth incident reported on this week where women in Gauteng have died, allegedly at the hands of current or former partners.

On Sunday Tinny Nkgudi (51) died after she was allegedly assaulted with a panga and a spade. Her husband has been arrested and charged for her murder.

On Monday, two women in Johannesburg, one in Thembisa and the other in Benoni, were stabbed to death. In both cases their partners were arrested.
