On Saturday, December 17 around 9:45, he described it as just another day, but then things changed.
“One man got a cold drink from the fridge and another man stood by the counter to buy airtime. I rang everything up and the man who purchased the airtime, stood by the door and made a phone call. They went outside and came back a few minutes later, this time there were five men armed with guns. My uncle that owns the building was also in the shop, and was standing by the counter. By that time, the guy who purchased the airtime was standing by one of the shelves. Two men came around the corner and took money, cigarettes, my cell phone and other items from the shop,” Sikander recalled the incident.
He also said that he did not get injured during the incident, the only words he could remember was looking into the firearm and the robbers saying: ‘I kill you, I kill you’.
Another business in downtown was also robbed, on the same day. This happened around 07:30 on the corner of Meyer and Botha Street. The victim explained to police that her and another employee entered the shop, but ensured that the door was locked when they were inside. As the other employee left to fetch something, the victim noticed an unknown suspect, pointing her with a fire arm. She also told police that the suspect told her to lie down and she did as she was told. She added that the suspect also tied her with a jersey and covered her mouth, and that they were three suspects at that moment.
