Witbank Community Corrections give to the less fortunate

Some of these children don’t have food even at home

Tears of joy and gratitude flowed as staff from Siphesihle Stimulation Centre received groceries from Witbank Community Corrections officials.

The presentation was held on Thursday, January 24.

According to Ms Thabile Mahlangu manager communications of the Department of Correctional Service (DCS) Witbank Management Area, this is part of the office’s Poverty Alleviation Projects which is conducted bi-annually to assist Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) in the community to help those who are less fortunate.

Mr Humphrey Skosana, Head Community Corrections was filled with emotions when he addressed the disabled children at the stimulation centre.

He thanked the staff which looks after the disabled children and said that there would be more to give now that officials have become aware of the centre.

“The handing over of the groceries moved the caretakers to tears and brought joy to the little ones as if somehow they were happy to have visitors during the month of January. They sang praise songs and listened carefully to all the speakers throughout the programme,” said Ms Mahlangu.

Mr Sekopelo Ndou, Area Coordinator Social Reintegration indicated that government does not have enough resources to cater for everyone.

He added that this is the reason that public servants ought to assist the government in helping those in need.

“I respect people who take care of those less fortunate and I ask that God give you strength to do more every day” he said.

Mrs Constance Mathabela thanked the correctional services officials for their contribution in alleviating poverty in the community.

“Some of these children don’t have food even at home, we pack food for them to eat at home because we can see that the situation is bad. We are deeply honoured and grateful for the support that you have shown us today” said Ms Mathabela.
