Teachers ‘do the math’ at mathematics seminar

What do you get when you add mathematics teachers and a My Maths Buddy mathematics seminar? It equals well-educated teachers ready to multiply the knowledge of learners.

My Maths Buddy hosted a mathematics seminar at Laerskool Kragbron last week for 26 mathematics teachers.

The maths was done, and it equalled a great success.

My Maths Buddy was established in 2012.

The main focus of the company is to provide South African schools, teachers and learners with high-quality maths resources that help them to get a better understanding of maths and thus improve results.

It provides effective maths learning and maths teaching methodologies and resources for maths teachers.

The main resource, the My Maths Buddy dictionary, was developed the same year and it spread like wildfire, getting into the hands of thousands of learners in South Africa over the past years.

The seminar took place at Laerskool Kragbron on March 8 and was sponsored by AON which sponsored 26 mathematics teachers from the following schools: Maloma Primary School, Mogalitwa Primary School, Hlalanikahle Primary School, Nkonjane Primary School, Kopanang Secondary School, Bonginsimbi Comprehensive School, Vuma Combined School, Khayalethu Primary School, Carissa Primary School, Itireleng Primary School and Phakama Primary School.

In attendance was Esther Mahlangu from the Department of Education who is the Circuit Manager of eMalahleni 1.

“The seminar was important in highlighting ways of teaching mathematics as it gives step-by-step skills development into understanding what causes barriers to learning and how to handle the manifestations of those barriers so learners have a better understanding and succeed in maths,” said one of the teachers in attendance, Tolman Samuel.

Another teacher, Vusimuzi Sikhosana, said: “The seminar was an eye opener and a different approach to teaching maths effectively and efficiently. Mediocre results will improve to amazing performances and results. I am ready to experience the change and improvement of the My Maths Buddy Effective Maths Teaching Program.”
