Give me the money…and some chicken

Thieves robbed a fast food restuaraznt at gunpoint.

How brazen can criminals be?

Not only did two suspects allegedly rob a popular fast food restaurant in Klipfontein at gunpoint of their cash – they made a staff member pack them a bucket of chicken too.

It was a very busy evening for the fast food restaurant on Tuesday, March 26.

Most people had just received their pay and orders were flooding in from the drive-through and counter sales.

At around 21:25 there was a slight lull and it was during this break in the number of customers, that two armed men allegedly entered the store.

In an interview with a staff member who was on duty at the time, she explained what had taken place.

“I was working the drive-through window. It was a bit quiet after a long queue of customers. I heard someone say to me ‘Give me the money’. As I looked up, a gun was pointed at me. The man holding the gun cocked it and handed me a packet and told me to open the tills and put the cash in it.”

All the other staff on duty ran to the back of the store and locked themselves in the bathroom, fridge, or office.

Only two staff members were left in the front to deal with the armed robbery.

“While I was busy putting the cash into the bag, the second man told my colleague to start packing chicken and kept telling him to add more.”

The cashier said once the cash and chicken were packed, the two suspects simply walked out of the fast food restaurant at a slow pace, as if they had all the time in the world.

The staff said they were in no hurry to run away.

The two staff members then took the opportunity and also ran to the back of the shop to seek safety.

“After a few minutes, we all came out and locked the door. We were scared they would come back. I didn’t sleep that night. It was very traumatising. They didn’t even seem like they were worried about getting away.”

“I am sure they were watching the restaurant. They came in shortly after our sales slowed down a bit for the night. They waited until there were few people. There were only two customers in the store.”

Nobody was physically harmed during the robbery, but the staff is emotionally traumatised by this event.

The police were called and an investigation is on-going.
