Siyanda’s rise to fame as uNkunzane

Siyanda blends Afro-pop and rap to create a distinctive sound.

With a voice that resonates with his generation’s struggles and hopes, Siyanda Phakathi, better known as uNkunzane, is fast becoming a household name in South Africa’s music scene.

As a producer and artist under Anti-Counterfeit, his unique sound blends Afro-pop and rap to create a distinctive style.

His love for music stems from his mother, a choir singer who inspired him to explore his vocal talents. He began singing in his school choir and eventually transitioned to writing and producing his own music.

“I started making music in 2013 but only took it seriously last year. I excel in rap, focusing on real-life experiences that people can relate to. My music touches on everyday struggles, traumas and challenges, offering a voice to those who need it,” he said.

Siyanda says Leverage, Duncan, Zakwe, and Blaq Diamond are his main influences, blending Afro-pop and rap to create a distinctive sound, “I don’t follow trends; I focus on my work and sound,” he said.

His debut single ‘Khence’, released in September, received overwhelming public support, marking a highlight in his career. With Anti-Counterfeit, Siyanda aims to introduce a signature sound to revolutionise the music scene.

“Success is measured by how many people you bless. I want to be remembered as the best to ever do this at a fairly young age,” he added.

Siyanda advises aspiring artists to stick to what they know best and trust the Lord.

As he continues to rise through the ranks, Siyanda remains humble and focused. His story serves as a testament to the power of passion, dedication, and staying true to one’s art.
