eMalahleni residents face low water pressure and supply cuts

Residents are advised to use water sparingly and to report any burst pipes or leaks to the municipality immediately.

The Emalahleni Local Municipality has issued a warning to residents about the critically low water levels in the area’s reservoirs.

As of February 24, the reservoir levels are alarmingly low, with Point A and Point B running at 11.4ML (± 11% capacity) and 20ML (± 34% capacity) respectively.

The situation is exacerbated by the limited pumping capacity, with only one pump running to Point C and no pumping taking place to Point A.

Areas supplied by Point A and Point B are already experiencing low water pressure or no water supply, with the situation expected to worsen shortly.

According to the municipality, it has attributed the low water levels to the inability of the main water purification plant to meet the potable water demand.

The Ben Fleur (Point S) package plant, which is currently out of operation due to ongoing repair works at the Witbank Dam raw water pump station, is expected to be commissioned again tomorrow afternoon.

This is expected to improve the reservoir levels and alleviate some of the pressure on the water supply system.

In the meantime, residents are advised to use water sparingly and to report any burst pipes or leaks to the municipality immediately.

The municipality has apologized to affected residents and has assured them that they are working diligently to address the challenges and restore a stable water supply to all areas.

Residents are urged to remain patient and to cooperate with the municipality’s efforts to restore a stable water supply.
