Kwa-Guqa double-murder case drags on

Justice remains on hold for families whose daughters were torched in Kwa-Guqa as the accused’s case continues to be postponed.

Mpumelelo Hill from Kwa-Guqa recently appeared before the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court facing charges related to a double murder case that caused a stir in the City of Coal.

The 35-year-old accused of torching his girlfriend, Nompumelelo Gamede, 21, and his sister, Antoinette Hill, 23, made his court appearance on March 11, where his case was postponed to April 23.

Members of the DA gathered outside the court during the proceedings, in support of the families who lost their daughters and as a united stand against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide.

“We are very disappointed to see that the case continues to be postponed and is not showing much progress,” said Sipho Mthombeni from the DA.

He added that the party will continue to advocate for justice to be served in the case.

Hill faces two counts of murder after the victims died at the hospital following the incident, which took place on July 23 last year.

According to Gamede’s father, the accused allegedly doused petrol on his daughter after a heated argument the couple had, together with his sister, who reportedly tried to intervene, and set them alight, leaving them locked in a room to burn.
