HTS Witbank girls’ hockey teams dominate league finale

As the league wraps up, HTS's focus now shifts to the Mpumalanga play-offs taking place next month.

HTS’s girls’ hockey teams closed out their Mpumalanga Schools League campaign with a dominant display against Hoërskool Piet Retief at the Thunderturf Astro.

The league concluded on May 23 when the senior sides led the charge and proved why HTS is a powerhouse in school hockey.

The first team produced a 2–1 victory, showing composure under pressure and finishing strong against a tough opponent. The second team followed suit with a 4–1 win, leaving no doubt about their superiority on the day, while the younger teams fought hard in competitive fixtures that showcased their resilience.

The U14A side battled to a 1–1 draw, while the U14B and U15A teams lost narrowly by 2–0 margins. The U16A team came close in a spirited contest, falling 3–2 but showing plenty of promise for the future, with the senior victories setting the tone for the club’s reputation as leaders in the league.

Speaking after the matches, Tyler Calitz of HTS praised the players’ efforts, “Our girls showed incredible determination and spirit. The senior teams proved that HTS dominates when it matters most, and we are proud of every player who gave their all,” she said.

With the league phase now complete, HTS’s focus turns to the Mpumalanga play-offs scheduled for June 6 and 13. The players and coaching staff are already preparing with intensity, determined to carry their winning momentum into the next stage.
