Local karatekas bring home 20 medals from national championships

The Samurai Dojo competed at the JKS Federation SA National Championships where they mantained their record of delivering outstanding performances.

The Samurai Dojo karatekas returned home with great pride after delivering an incredible performance at the JKS Federation SA National Championships.

On May 9, the team participated in the annual competition and portrayed great dedication, discipline, and great sportsmanship, earning 20 medals in various divisions.

“As a dojo head, it makes me extremely proud to see my students excel and perform with confidence, discipline, and respect on such a big stage,” said sensei Martin Lindeque. “Watching their growth and passion for karate is one of the most fulfilling parts of this journey.”

The sensei said the national championships are one of the biggest highlights on their calendar every year.

“It is a very well-organised competition that brings together talented karatekas from all over the country, creating an atmosphere of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship,” he said.

The team’s journey at the nationals has been incredibly rewarding and motivating for both the students and the team, as this year’s performance shows an improvement from last year’s win of 14 medals.

Currently, the students are hard at practice in preparation for their next area grading taking place at the end of May.

“The students are the heart of Samurai Dojo. Without their dedication, commitment, and love for karate, the dojo would not be what it is today,” the sensei concluded.
