Four vehicle crime incidents hit Tasbet Park and N12 within days
A series of violent hijackings and vehicle thefts has left motorists on high alert in eMalahleni.
Police are investigating multiple hijacking and vehicle theft cases after a string of overnight incidents in Tasbet Park and along the N12.
In the first incident, which occurred on the evening of September 10, a man told the police that he had stopped to relieve himself on the N12 on-ramp when three armed men attacked him. He said he was forced into another vehicle after one of the men hijacked his car. They drove off with him before dropping him off at Ben Fleur.
On September 13, another man lost his vehicle in Umtiza Street in Tasbet Park. The man said he went to sleep that evening, leaving his white Nissan NP200 parked inside his secured yard. He said when he woke up the next morning, his vehicle was nowhere to be found, and he realised that the padlock on the main gate had been cut open.

Another hijacking incident occurred shortly after midnight along the N12 freeway, when a driver was assaulted and left without a vehicle by three armed men who reportedly blocked his path in the middle of the road. The victim told the police that the attackers pulled him from his white Nissan NP200, stole his cellphone, and struck him in the face with a firearm. After the victim fought back against an attempt to force him into the boot, the gunmen reportedly kicked him and drove over him with his vehicle. The victim was later found by security guards who accompanied him home.

In just a few hours, another man was robbed of his vehicle in Coronet Street, Tasbet Park, on his way to drop off his girlfriend at her place. According to the police, the man said he had just reversed his vehicle out of his yard and got out to close the gate. He said that was when two armed men appeared and ordered him out of the way. His girlfriend who had been in the vehicle, got out and fled in fear. The men reportedly took the vehicle and sped off towards Klipfontein.
No arrests have been made in all the cases, and investigations are ongoing.
