Knife threat at church: eMalahleni Court postpones case
An Easter church service descended into panic when a man allegedly confronted a congregant before being restrained.
The case against a man accused of threatening a 71-year-old with a knife during an Easter church service has once again been postponed.
Themba Skosana appeared in the eMalahleni Magistrate’s Court on July 8.
The matter was postponed to July 28 for further investigation. He remains out on bail of R500.
Church service panic
The charges stem from an incident on April 4, when a church service descended into panic and confusion.
According to the complainant, Elizabeth Sikeli, the accused confronted her before the service. She alleged that he followed and pushed her while she was walking to church with fellow congregants.
The situation allegedly escalated during the service. “I was praying when I suddenly felt something cold against my neck. It was a knife,” Sikeli said. She added that the accused made several attempts to stab her, but she escaped unharmed.
Congregants reportedly overpowered and restrained the accused before anyone was seriously injured.
