NAA athletes cross Comrades’ finish line

The NAA trio conquers the Comrades Marathon in a near 11-hour finish.

Nkangala Athletics Academy athletes successfully completed the Comrades Marathon, with all three runners crossing the finish line in nearly 11 hours after taking on the challenging ultra-distance race.

Veteran athlete Themba Skosana led the team through his 25th Comrades Marathon finish, reinforcing his long-standing experience in the iconic event as he finished at 10:53:43. He first competed in 1999 and has since become the academy’s most capped runner in the race.

Reflecting on the tough conditions, he said, “The race was not easy for this year because I started in Group 2 at 05h15. The second issue was overtraining, so on all the uphills I walked them. I could only run the flat and down sections, so I had a bad day on race day, but I managed to finish in 10h42.”

He was joined by Sizwe Mokoena, who completed his fifth Comrades Marathon after debuting in 2022 with 10:50:43, as well as Geoffrey Sipho Ndlovu, who finished his second race following his debut in 2025 with 10:40:33.

Academy spokesperson Emmanuel Mabasa described the achievement as a major milestone and said, “This is a milestone achievement for Nkangala Athletic Academy athletes. Comrades Marathon is not for sissies. We are proud of our athletes.”
