School campaign warns kids of drug dangers
Various stakeholders gathered at Alex M. Mampana Primary School to impart knowledge to the learners in celebration of Child Protection Week.
The National Institute for Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO) partnered with Alex M. Mampana Primary School to host a powerful Child Protection Week campaign focused on crime prevention and behaviour modification.
Held on June 10, the initiative brought together stakeholders from various departments, including Thuthuzela, FOVOC, SANCA, SAPS, and the Department of Social Development.

Together, the stakeholders addressed high-risk behaviours and vulnerabilities that children face daily. They also educated the parents in attendance about child protection and foster care.
The school deputy principal, Kholofelo Mathunyane, explained that drug habits develop at an early age, which is why the relevant stakeholders needed to educate the kids on such topics.

“We felt that it was good to start the awareness on the foundation so that when these kids grow, they grow up knowing the dangers of drugs and their effects,” the principal said. “We’d like to thank everyone who supported the event and NICRO for organising it.”
