Local artists ready to represent eMalahleni at national festival

Five productions set to represent the City of Coal at the National Arts Festival in the Eastern Cape.

Five local productions selected to represent the eMalahleni Local Municipality at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown gathered at the civic theatre, where they rendered an entertaining preview on June 26.

The event brought together community members and municipal leaders to celebrate and witness the outstanding performances before the artists head out to represent the city from June 29 to July 3.

The audience was treated to compelling and emotional productions that explore gender-based violence (GBV).

“The productions expose the excuses and the myths that keep GBV going. They also reveal pathways that will help victims to get interventions,” said Vinolia Nkosi, from one of the productions.

Additional topics addressed in the performance included family conflicts and the impact of unresolved generational issues.

The artists said they look forward to representing eMalahleni with pride, and expressed appreciation to the municipality for assisting the group with meals and accommodation.
