Ethiopian tuck shop owner shot during business robbery in MNS

A tuck shop owner was shot in the leg during an armed robbery at his business in MNS Informal Settlement, where suspects fled with groceries and other stock.

An Ethiopian shop owner was shot in the leg during a late-night armed robbery at his tuck shop in MNS Informal Settlement.


According to police, the incident occurred at about 23:00 on July 2.

The complainant, a 31-year-old Ethiopian national, was asleep inside his tuck shop when he heard a noise outside.
When he went to investigate, he encountered a man who instructed him to open the back door.

Moments later, about seven armed men entered the shop. During the robbery, one of the suspects fired two shots, striking the shop owner in the upper leg.


The group allegedly ransacked the tuck shop before stealing groceries and other stock. They then fled the scene on foot.

Station spokesperson Warrant Officer David Ratau said, “No arrests have been made, and police investigations are continuing.”

In a statement addressing looting incidents, Free State SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia warned that “lawlessness, looting, and attacks on state property will be met with the full force of the law.”
