The latest incident occurred on July 11 near Phillip Ndimande Secondary School in Kwa-Guqa Extension 10, where a taxi driver had stopped to drop off a passenger when a vehicle blocked his path.
Three armed suspects allegedly approached, with one firing shots before assaulting the driver and forcing him into the back seat.
The suspects reportedly drove with the victim to a local mining area, where they robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash, a cellphone, and an identity document before abandoning him and fleeing with his Toyota Quantum.
In another incident on July 10, a motorist travelling with family members parked in Kwa-Guqa Extension 1 when three armed men, whose faces were covered, allegedly approached and ordered the occupants out of their white Toyota single cab before driving away with it.
Later that evening, another motorist was hijacked at a car wash in Kwa-Guqa Extension 9. Two armed suspects allegedly confronted the victim as he prepared to reverse his white Isuzu double cab, forcing him out before fleeing with the vehicle.
A separate hijacking was reported on July 8 in Kwa-Guqa Extension 12, where a couple was sitting inside a parked vehicle outside their home when a power outage occurred.
Two armed suspects allegedly opened the vehicle’s windows, ordered the occupants out, forced them to lie face down, and robbed them of two cellphones, cash, and bank cards before driving away with the vehicle.
In an earlier incident in Overline on July 6, a motorist was shot several times in the upper legs after armed suspects demanded the keys to his Toyota Quantum while he was closing his gate.
The suspects fled with the vehicle after the shooting.
