Jackaroo Park shop owner murdered in armed robbery
Police have advised business owners against keeping large amounts of cash in their shops to reduce the risk of robberies.
A shop owner was shot dead and his employee robbed when two armed men attacked a store in Jackaroo Park yesterday afternoon, July 27.
According to police, the employee said the incident unfolded at about 14:00 while he was working alongside his employer.
Two men disguised in work uniforms entered the shop, drew firearms and demanded cash.
They searched the worker and took all the money in his possession before moving to the owner behind the counter and shooting him in the stomach.
The employee said the robbers then took money and cigarettes from behind the counter before fleeing on foot.
The owner was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead.
Witbank SAPS opened a case of business robbery and murder, and investigations are underway.
Police advise against keeping cash on premises
Warrant Officer David Ratau of Witbank SAPS advised shop owners to refrain from keeping large sums of money in their stores.
“They must always make time to go and deposit the money in the bank without informing anyone about it,” Ratau said. “It’s unfortunate that someone has died, but we shall continue with investigations to make sure that the robbers are arrested.”
Anyone with information that might help police solve the case is urged to contact Witbank SAPS on 079 891 5570 or 013 655 5052.
