Community unites to clean-up crime hotspot in Blancheville
The members cleaned up the streets and later handed over food parcels to local families in need.
Ward 20 Councillor Maureen Scheepers, in partnership with the Blancheville Neighbourhood Watch, led a community clean-up on July 18 in honour of Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service.
The team targeted streets which had become overgrow with big bushes and identified as a hotspot for crime.
“We identified the street because there is a lot of crime that emanates from it. So we decided to clean up,” Scheepers said.

Community members also joined in to cut the trees, clear litter, and make the area safer.
The councillor also used the day to collect donations of food items to hand over to families that need them most.
“I also asked people to come and donate food items because we have identified families that need food parcels,” she said. “After cleaning up, we made food parcels from the donated items and shared them with the identified families.”
