Sports to get people high on sports initiative
Activities that were held were street soccer; street netball as well as aerobics
Recently police organised a sports against crime initiative.
The initiative was organised together with other stakeholders, and it was held at Thys Jonker Street in Ackerville on Wednesday, March 22.
Activities that were held were street soccer; street netball as well as aerobics. An exhibition of all stakeholders was also held.
The target group were young people who are into drugs, this was done to raise awareness against crime. The police also wanted the public to discourage young people from doing crime by rather engaging in sports.
According to Saferspaces, their desks encourage and enable young people to participate actively in identifying the causes of youth violence and crime and to collaborate in creating social crime prevention strategies for their communities.
The organisation also recognises that young people in South Africa are key target group as both victims and perpetrators of crime thus the prevention interventions.
The National Development Plan (NDP) for South Africa emphasises active involvement and co-responsibility with law enforcement to address and resolve the root causes of violence.
