It is not easy to follow in the footsteps of your father, let alone your brother.
Jimmy Tshehla has found it easy just to do that, following in the steps of his father Paul ‘Sika’ Tshehla and his brother Anthony ‘Blue Jaguar’ Tshehla.
Tshehla was a wellknown during his time and now are a boxing promoter, judge and a trainer and is known for producing boxers like Mandla Ngobeni, Tsepho Mashego and many other who made a mark in the boxing field.
Lawrence Ngobeni is the former WBA International and South African welterweight champion.
Ngobeni finally drew the curtain on his glittering career when he announced his retirement from boxing.
This after Ngobeni slipped to his fourth successive defeat at the hands of Mzukisi Mgidi.
Ngobeni, a veteran of 45 bouts with 31 victories, 10 losses and four draws has been boxing as a professional since 1992.
Jimmy started his primary school at Sibukosethu Primary School and preceded to Reyno Park High School.
He said he was influenced and supported by his father and brother to join boxing.
“My father has always been my pillar of strength and my brother offered all the support I needed. My father is not only my role model but my coach and trainer as well. My brother gives me all the tips and makes sure that I keep to my training schedules,” said Tshehla.
The young Tshehla has to date 43 fights and lost only seven of those fights.
He says his most difficult fight was against Andile Kraga of Soweto whom he fought in 2017, Kraga won the fight but Jimmy paid revenge when he beat him on Saturday on a points decision.
Jimmy fights in the youth boys’ 49 kg weight division.
He has been selected to represent the province in the national championships.
“It is not easy to achieve great things, one has to be dedicated, train hard, focus, avail and believe in yourself. Never give up in life,” was Jimmy’s message to other young people.
