Warning for students and job seekers

These kinds of scams are malicious in nature and are usually intended to extort money from victims/job seekers.

Police strongly warn students and job seekers not to fall prey to money making scams as such acts are rife during this time of the year.

Unsuspecting criminals are aiming at using all the tricks to get cash from people that are vulnerable.

These kinds of scams are malicious in nature and are usually intended to extort money from victims/job seekers.

During this time of the year, parents do whatever they can and also put all their resources, including money, to ensure that their children are registered at institutions of higher learning.

However, this is also a period where criminals use such an opportunity to lure their victims to get cash from them.

According to information at police disposal, there are persons who pose as representatives of tertiary institutions and they lure their victims to deposit cash at clothing shops in order for them to be registered, whereas in fact they are not true representatives of those institutions of higher learning.

Unsuspecting victims, after depositing money, will never hear anything from the so called “bogus representatives”.

These are just criminals who take advantage of people who are desperate and who might lack information.

The police therefore caution the public about this trend and advise people to enquire thoroughly about schools and employment.

Police would also like to warn members of the community to desist from paying money to individuals who promise them employment because there are no jobs for sale where one will be requested to make payment for them to be employed.

Legitimate vacant posts are advertised through the media (print and electronic) as well as on the relevant websites.

The public is also urged to be vigilant and seek clarity from the said tertiary institutions as well as companies to confirm the legitimacy of such offers in future.

The police therefore categorically condemn the tendencies of these criminals as it is evil and at times, it takes the last money a particular family was having with a view to get employment or intended higher learning ineducation.

We also sensitize students who will be registering for the first time at institutions of higher learning to be weary of bogus schools.
