A taxi driver was shot dead in Clermont, Durban, while transporting a full load of passengers.
The incident happened during the early hours of Thursday morning on Zazi Road.
According to several eyewitnesses who spoke to The Witness, an unknown assailant approached the taxi while it was stationary and fired shots at the driver.
The driver also allegedly fired back at the assailant and severely wounded him.

The driver died at the scene while the alleged assailant, who was in a critical condition, was taken to hospital.
It is believed that the taxi belonged to the Clermont and KwaDabeka taxi association.
The scene is still active as police are collecting evidence and interviewing the passengers.
