New tourism body gears up for hard work
Office-bearers have their work cut out for them.
FOLLOWING its inaugural AGM earlier this month, the uMhlathuze Community Tourism Organisation (CTO) committee met to elect its office-bearers.
Professor Thandi Nzama, head of the Recreation and Tourism faculty at the University of Zululand, was chosen as chairperson, Thembi Maseko as vice-chair, Lyn Govender as secretary and Mandla Magagula as treasurer.
Prof Nzama urged the members to work passionately for the organisation and not let their enthusiasm waver.
‘There is no place for failure so we must put our shoulders to the wheel.
‘While we all have many commitments, we need to ensure that attending meetings and making decisions are a priority.’
Prof Nzama thanked the steering committee that began the process of forming the CTO and said she would build on the platform that had been set.
Various sub-committees were established: Marketing, Finance, Training and Development, Accommodation and Transport, Communication, and Tourism Development.
Next item in the CTO diary is a workshop with the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, including a strategy planning session.
‘Once we have clear direction we will be in a good position to do proper planning,’ said Prof Nzama.
