
A COW and a dog have been confirmed to have been rabid in the latest rabies cases reported in the district.
The cow was found in a rural area south of eShowe during the weekend, running around attacking people and salivating heavily.
Residents in the area tied up the cow and it was found dead the next morning.
One person who had contact with the saliva has been vaccinated against rabies.
In a second case, a dog was found to be rabid in an area north of Empangeni.
It was shot after it attacked a farmer’s dogs.
As far as can be ascertained, there was no human contact and the farmer’s dogs had been vaccinated.
Pet owners are encouraged to have their animals vaccinated against rabies.
