Bay gasses up for high winter demand
Consumers warned to stock up on gas before supply runs low this winter.

MORE than 4 500 tons of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) arrived at the Richards Bay port last week to help keep Zululanders cope during this season’s cold spells.
According to local gas market leader Afrox, the large shipment was offloaded at its Richards Bay strategic storage facility to ensure sufficient supply for consumers and industrial customers during the winter months.
However, the company warned that gas stocks could run low according to market expectations.
‘Currently, Handigas LPG is available across South Africa with the onset of extreme cold and snow in parts of the country,’ said Afrox Head of LPG, Mark Radford.
‘We expect demand to rise sharply, and imported stocks will meet a possible shortfall in local supply.
‘We advise consumers to avoid the last minute rush by purchasing their LPG now while stocks are readily available.’
Radford said the demand for LPG is already on the rise in both the commercial and consumer sectors.
‘As a result, Afrox considers it necessary to import stocks to act as a buffer against local shortages.
‘Importing LPG on an ongoing basis, although costly relative to local product, will be required to ensure rising local demand can be met.’
