Close call for yacht crew

A NSRI Durban crew were activated on Saturday afternoon to assist a 50-foot catamaran yacht, WICKED’, sailing from Knysna to Richards Bay.

The yacht, with four crew on board, was making its way under motor power since its mast is to be fitted in Richards Bay, when it started taking on water from unknown causes and risked sinking 10 nautical miles south of Durban.

The skipper, however, later reported that his water pumps were working satisfactory and the inflow was being contained.

Sea Rescue supplied additional pumps and remained on standby until the yacht safely reached the Durban harbour.
