Seminar boosts tourism sector

Tourism training is well received in uMhlathuze.

BUSINESSES operating in the B&B sector benefited from a workshop arranged by the uMhlathuze Community Tourism Organisation (CTO), with leading professionals sharing valuable, practical input.

Presented by SCORE (Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises) under the auspices of ILO (International Labour Organization), the two-day seminar focussed on every aspect of the hospitality industry.

This covered, among others, legal, practical, quality, financial, housekeeping, environmental, health and safety issues.

Lectures were followed by on-site visits to the participating establishments, and the modules enabled practical assessments to be done that will ensure measurable outcomes.

‘We certainly learnt a lot from their impressive, professional approach and were able to identify weaknesses and areas of improvement,’ said Vanessa le Roux, CTO Secretary and owner of Umhambi Lodge, where the workshop was hosted.

Also in attendance were management and staff from Woodpecker Inn, Umqhele Bed & Breakfast, Isibaya Guest House, Seagull Lodge and Nomusa B&B.
