THOSE who qualified as South African military paratroopers, often referred to as Parabats, are invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the KwaZulu-Natal Canopy of the South African Paratroopers Association.
‘ Paratroopers the world over share a special and common bond and the idea of forming a provincial canopy was to promote the esprit-de-corps and traditions of the paratroopers locally, across the country and internationally,’ said Gavin Moultrie.
Moultry, himself a South African paratrooper who did his jump course and qualified for his wings in 1974, is one of the key organisers behind the KZN Canopy initiative.
‘There are many past paratroopers scattered across KZN who have expressed an interest in strengthening the the airborne comradeship.
‘Apart from regular communication of international and local paratrooper news and updates to all members, the Canopy will also organise events and get-togethers on special airborne days and occasions.’
Membership is also open to paratroopers who qualified in other countries.
The inaugural KwaZulu-Natal Canopy of the South African Paratroopers Association meeting will be held at the DLI Hall on Monday, 2 March at 6pm.
