Good rains soak Zululand, but ….

ON Monday evening Zululanders celebrated as the earth was drenched in what was one of the few heavy downpours of the summer.
Within an hour, an average of 20mm fell throughout most of the region, with only a few areas not receiving any rain.

The Goedertrouw Dam was standing at 44.8% as on Monday, which was 0.7% less than the previous week.
Hopefully the rains on Monday evening will have had some affect on the levels.
Last year the level of the Goedertrouw was 85.5% at this time.
The Hluhluwe Dam is 47.6%, the Klipfontein Dam 61.9% and the Pongolapoort Dam 60.2%
The highest rainfalls on Monday evening fell in Monzi with 64.5mm and Mtubatuba with 40.6mm being recorded.
Further north the Makatini Flats received 12.3mm and the Mkuze Estate 6.6mm.
No rain was reported in the Mkhuze Game Reserve section of the iSimangoliso Wetland Park.
Heatonville and Empangeni were below the average with 14.2mm (with some areas as high as 26mm) and 16.1mm respectively.
Melmoth, Nkwaleni and eShowe reported 9.4mm, 11.6mm and 9.4mm to 22.4mm.
Residents are requested to continue using water sparingly as the situation is still critical and not much more rain is expected as winter approaches.
