Woolworths gift card sms is a scam

Woolworths warns customers to be alert of a circulating voucher scam

A SMS doing the rounds claiming subscribers stand a chance of winning a R6 500 Woolworths gift card, is a scam.

Skeptic customers have come forward questioning the legitimacy of the text message, which requires the recipient to complete a mini questionnaire to qualify.

After completing the series of questions, you are directed to a page which encourages you to ‘share’ the message with 10 friends via popular messaging application ‘WhatsApp’.

Once the process is completed, shipping details and your cellphone number is requested should you be the lucky winner.

However, before you pre-qualify, a subscription fee of R7 per day pops up onto your screen.

Woolworths South Africa confirmed that the survey was not associated with the brand and an investigation is being done.

In a statement released by the retailer, customers are warned to ‘watch out for some Facebook and email scams using our name and logo that offer you a Woolworths gift card when you fill out a ‘Customer Satisfaction Survey’.

‘We would never ask our customers for their personal or banking details in unsolicited communications. All of our official competitions run from our Facebook Page at facebook.com/woolworths, and are posted on the ‘Promotions & Competitions’ page of our website.’ the statement concluded.
